This role is a challenging and exciting opportunity to lead and shape the financial direction of the Digital business, Retail’s fastest growing channel. The role requires an individual with strong stakeholder management, financial and commercial awareness and excellent communication and influencing skills. Responsible for all aspects of financial and business performance of the Digital (online and mobile) business including the ongoing implementation of and further development of the Galaxy programme.
The role reports to the Finance Director for Direct Channels and Group Marketing and has a team of 4 plus also support from the Group IT Finance. The role supports the Executive Director of Digital, Ashley Machin and is a member of the Digital Leadership Team.
Key accountabilities:
• Responsible for the Galaxy Programme financials (c £250M over 4 years growing to £150M per annum investment). Manage the financial risks and opportunities for the programme overall and provide financial guidance and interpretation on changes to the programme.
• Support the development of the long term strategy and roadmap design to drive multichannel strategy.
• Define financial goals for the strategic business planning process, actively participating in the development of business strategy
• Provide a financial consultancy service to senior management to improve business performance, influencing customer groups to make effective use of the financial resources available
• Define and direct the parameters within which financial information, analysis, interpretation and guidance to be provided to customer groups, thereby enabling an improved understanding of the financial implications of decisions
• Define and direct financial planning, budgeting and forecasting process, influencing and challenging customer groups to achieve agreed targets, ensuring these are in line with wider Group objectives
• Interpret external market developments, understand the implication on and respond to potential impacts those factors might have on the Digital business and support the achievement of business unit objectives
• Support the Director of Finance in the development of an effective, constantly improving finance function.
• Lead the development of Business MI and analysis to understand early warning (lead/lag) indicators of business performance and create strategies to achieve short term traction and sustainable long term goals.
• Lead the thinking & delivery of budgeting/targeting models and methods for financial analysing, reporting and appraisal.
• Use business performance to drive new solutions that drive the short and long term strategy,
• Own and lead principle relationships with appropriate stakeholders including Product Heads and Regional Directors maintaining a robust financial control environment across all areas.
• Lead robust Performance diagnosis and shape key performance standards, to ensure bandwidth against key metrics is measured and managed continually against those key standards.
